1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences (such as theme), keep essential functions working, and — when you allow it — measure how the site is used. This page explains which cookies we set on byte-system.one, what they do, and how you control them.

2. Categories of cookies we use

We group cookies into two categories. Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working: they remember your cookie preferences themselves and your selected theme. Analytics cookies are optional and only set when you allow them; they help us understand which pages help and which do not. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. The cookies we set

byte-system.one_cookies — strictly necessary, stored in localStorage, persists for 12 months, set by Byte System, records your consent choice. byte-system.one_theme — strictly necessary, stored in localStorage, persists for 12 months, set by Byte System, remembers your dark/light preference. _bs_session — strictly necessary, session cookie, set by Byte System, used for form submission protection. _bs_analytics — optional, persistent for 14 months, set by Byte System (self-hosted analytics), records aggregated page views with no cross-site identifiers; only set after explicit acceptance.

4. How to manage your preferences

You control optional cookies via the consent banner that appears on your first visit. You can change your choice at any time by clearing site storage in your browser, which will trigger the banner again. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled while you use the site, but you can delete them through your browser settings — at the cost of some functions.

5. Browser-level cookie controls

All major browsers let you block or delete cookies. Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. Safari: Preferences → Privacy. Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site (theme persistence, consent state) will not function as intended.

6. Third-party cookies and services

We deliberately limit third-party cookies. Embedded video, where used, is loaded in privacy-enhanced mode and does not set tracking cookies until you press play. We do not use third-party advertising trackers, social-media pixels, or cross-site analytics. For full detail on data shared with our service providers, see our Data Protection page.

7. Changes to this Cookies notice

We update this notice when we change which cookies we set or how we use them. The "last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. For questions, contact policy@byte-system.one. For broader privacy questions, see our Data Protection page.
